Do You Believe Marijuana Is A Gateway Drug?

My personal opinion is that it is a gateway drug to the ones who abuse it. Many just use it on occasion with friends at social events. Though for a lot it becomes a habit then the high just isn’t enough. Especially for those who use it as a means for escape or stress relief. So over time the person will most likely go on to bigger and better drugs, if they don’t see the growing habit as a problem. I just go by what I see and that’s my opinion on it, what’s yours?
BTW in case anyone asks, no I have never done drugs or used anything like that as a means of “escape.” Mostly because I couldn’t see the logic in it. I guess I saw it as “cheating,” lol, to get over your problems or relieve stress since a person could easily do the same without it.

  1. not a gateway drug
I know multiple people who have smoked pot for 20-30 years. They don’t do other drugs. Alcohol is more of a gateway drug than pot.

  2. I can’t be take as take a coffee because coffee does not have the same consequences. but people don’t understand the consequences only the way the drug in fact make them feel, as the smokers they said “it makes me feel fine” but what after a long time they don’t thing about it

  3. From what I’ve seen in my life, weed isn’t a gateway drug, but it does quickly turn someone into a loser. I mean BIG-time loser–to the point where they are in their 30′s and are wearing sweatpants and can’t afford a car (like, not even a Geo Metro).

  4. Just like everything else that is illegal, it could be considered one.
Beer could be looked at this way for pre-21 year olds. Same thing with cigarettes, chewing tobacco…

  5. Most people that I know that use it have also used other drugs. Alcohol is bad enough, we don’t need any more brain dead people out there.

  8. I know this sounds like a contradiction, but marijuana is not addictive…habit forming yes, but not addictive like nicotene or alcahol. I have smoked for about six years now, and I quit periodically and start back up when I want to. Yes sometimes I do crave it, but thats with anything you like to do. I am currently not smoking right now, and Im going to keep it up for as long as I want. There are no withdraws and there are so many different types and degrees of weed, if ur bored with one hight, get some better weed! People go to other drugs because they are weak minded and are looking for a way out.

  9. I think it depends upon the person’s personality. For instance, some people try pot just to see what it is like. They might use it once or twice, and it might be totally harmless. However, if a person has an addictive personality, then he or she might tend to rely upon it, and yes, be more open to the idea of another sort of high. Most people who love pot are looking to lose their selves in a high. When they hear of a better way to forget their problems, then they decide that they have already crossed one line, why not try another? So, yeah, I do believe that it can be a gateway drug for people looking to escape everyday problems.

  10. No. I think a lot of kids are jumping straight to crack or meth without even trying pot first.
Personally, it comes down to the individual. If they smoke pot, I don’t automatically assume that they’re going to do other things, even if they smoke pot daily. There are people that use pot and eventually want something “better”, and I don’t think it’s the pot that made those people want something better, but it’s the people. I’m not trying to say pot isn’t addictive, because it is….but it’s addictive like cigarettes are addictive. And how many people see cigarettes are a “gateway” drug?
Personally, I smoke pot and I’ve tried mushrooms and ecstasy. The mushrooms were fun and i could take them or leave them. Ecstasy was a lot of fun but I can’t trust a drug that anyone can make with a few ingredients from the drug store.
