  1. No. It’s not smoking pot that might lead you to try other drugs, it’s what I call “chasing the high”. Some people remain completely satisfied by having a few beers. Others with smoking some pot.
But then there are those who “chase the high”, seeking better, more powerful highs. So when beer isn’t enough, they try pot. When that’s not enough, they try different and more powerful drugs.
Weed is considered a “gateway” drug only because heavy drug use has to start somewhere. I don’t believe smoking pot causes any need to use other drugs. It’s just easier to get, at first.

  2. That’s such a “cop out”. Alcohol is more dangerous than weed . Like someone else said if a person is an addict or something it can escalate to harder drug use.
I don’t think kids should do it just like kids can’t LEGALLY purchase cigs or liquor. There are several people who smoke as a part of their routine & still have happy families & good jobs & homes.

  3. I think the main reason people say that as your not going to the nice people at the supermarket to get it, your going to some potentially dangerous person where statutory rights and the customer is always right dont come into it, they might offer you something else potentially a lot worse, thats why its called “the gateway drug”

  4. yea i can see why pple would move to other drugs…….but i havnt for 5 years. Some pple just do it too much and then they dont even feel “high” after they smoke, so they move onto something stronger……like my friend……went from weed to crystal meth and ruined his life.
i smoke weed just about everyday and havnt done any other drugs but shrooms once! haha. If it comes out of the ground, i’m down to try. I’m even educated and have a job too and i LOVE to smoke!!!!

  5. I don’t think it “makes” you do other drugs. However, I think anyone with the propensity to alter their state of reality in one manner would be susceptible to alter it in another manner, especially if their manner-of-choice were unavailable.

  6. NO it is no more a “gateway” drug than alcohol. I’m sick of TV & media using it as a scapegoat. It’s not for kids. Just like booze & cigs.

  7. Damn media, no, not a gateway drug, this myth comes from the fact that it’s illegal and people think that illegal is illegal, other drugs might be the same.
