Do You Think The Us Is Finally Going To Legalize Marijuana?
Theres been a lot of serious talk going on about legalizing marijuana. Is this any different then the debates they had before? Do you think it will finally get legalized?

I think it will, eventually, but WE need to push our lawmakers to action. Right now it is still very much a political hot potato, but you are right – that is starting to change.
I don’t smoke, but I definitely think it should be legal, provided that it is regulated like alcohol (no minors, and no driving).
It makes absolutely no sense that cannabis is illegal while alcohol and tobacco (both of which are MORE harmful and MORE addictive) are legal.
Legalization would:
- Create thousands of jobs
- Deal a massive blow to drug cartels, which would suddenly be without 75% of their income
- Provide an enormous windfall for the government, which would bring in billions in taxes and SAVE billions more on law enforcement (ending Prohibition played a big part in getting the U.S. out of the Great Depression)
- Allow police, courts and prisons to focus their resources on DANGEROUS criminals, rather than potheads
Contact your representatives in government! If you don’t know who they are, find out at http://capwiz.com/norml2/dbq/officials/. If they hear from enough of us, they’ll HAVE to start taking this issue seriously. As Gandhi once said, “first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”

The issue is a catch-22. It can’t be legalized until it is shown no one uses it anymore. To legalize it, we’d have to quit and refrain for as long as it takes to show the ruling party that we don’t need it anymore, which would dry up the money flow from drug arrests and tickets, thus making the prohibition irrelevant. Then all we would need is a bill to go thru congress that shows the law is no longer needed and the law gets changed.
So the only way to legalize it is to quit.

I think it’s on its way. California rejected a challenge to California’s medical marijuana law recently: http://www.newser.com/story/59403/suprem…
Also, the governator is a fan. He wants to legalize it: http://www.newser.com/story/58173/schwar…
Although Obama said recently he wouldn’t hear of it, I think it’s almost inevitable.

I saw Obama’s new speech and the speech he made in 2004 regarding legalization/decriminalization. I would say that he may pass a bill, but this won’t happen until close to the end of his second term in office (if applicable).

I hope not!
Right now, many states have medical marijuana and it is working out fine.
If the government ever gets it’s greed infected hands on it, they will inflate the tax to too high of prices and the quality will go down.
