Help>> Should I Get Cps Envolved..?

I have a serious problem on my hands reguarding my neices and nephews. Their dad is a total loser! Anyways, my sister calls me up on friday and tells me her daughter almost died in the ER of the hospital. She had stolen a bottle of tequilla (the store has footage on tape) and got drunk (she said it was peer pressure) while ditching school. After she was totally entoxicated, apparently the girls she was with dropped her off at the school where she became very combative with the staff and was sent to the hospital where she slipped into a coma. Her blood alcohol level was .24 (3 times the legal limit and she’s 15 years old and weighs about 115). She is doing well now, and CPS was involved in this situation. So next my sister tells me that on Sunday her 13 year old son smoked marijuana with her 10 year old son. I immediately assumed they stole it from their dad because he’s nothing more than a drunken pot head. These kids have grown up watching their dad get drunk to the point of where they have called us crying while we are out and they think their dad is dying because he’s passed out on the floor moaning/groaning. This man has also grown marijuana several times (which the kids have been fully aware of) and the last time my boyfriend went to their house and tore down all the plants he had in his bathroom. There were extension cords running down the hall. He had transformed his bathroom into a green house. No mind you this is all legal because he’s got a license to grow medical marijuana and a license to smoke it. He missed his daughter’s 15 birthday because he had to go down to Fresno and seen a certain doctor who apparently hands these licenses out like candy. He is obsessed with marijuana and it really isn’t even necessary for him. He’s got a shoulder injury, and I know the guy so this is just an excuse for his addiction. Anyways, now that the 2 younger boys are smoking weed, she tells me that her 13 year old son is also “cutting”. For those of you who don’t know this is a form of self-mutilation where they cut themeselves with who knows what. I spoke to my sister this AM and told her to rip the damn plants out and kick her husband out if he’s gonna keep doing this stuff. She told me that she wasn’t gonna rip the plants out, that he needs to decide that it should stop on his own because last time she chose for them to go (so my boyfriend ripped them out for her). I am obviously scared for my neice and nephews and I don’t know if I’m over reacting or if I am valid. I know if I got CPS involved the kids could probably be pulled out of her house. I don’t think it would be a safe thing for me to take them as I’m only 28 and had my first child who is only 4 months old. So, what do I do???

  2. Call CPS. They don’t have to know that it was you. More than likely this will scare your sister into leaving her husband and taking the kids with her. CPS will give her a chance to get her children back.

  4. Call CPS, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Maybe the children can stay with you for a while, until the mother gets back on her feet. It all depends, but call them, this sounds bad. Plus it will start a record so that if someone else calls CPS, or if you must again, they will know more about the situation already.
EDIT: Also, maybe they will get your sister some counselling or help, or whatever to help her to relalize that this guy is just bringing her and her family down.

  5. I personally would definitely get CPS involved. I guarantee the kids will be pulled from that house so what about grandparents or other aunts and uncles? Is there someone else in YOUR family that can help these kids that also understands that the kids are in danger? I say your family because I have this feeling the guy’s family will say he is doing nothing wrong..Just don’t try to put those kids in foster care, you wouldn’t want them getting separated. It sounds like the kids need therapy; that way they can discuss and talk about their situation and feelings and can learn that this is not the way you have or need to live your lives. I hope this helps in some way though, good luck to you :-)
