The HEPA privacy act prohibits the medical professionals from disclosing any and all information to anyone without your expressed written permission. The only way a court may look at your medical files is through a subpoena served on your doctor requiring either him to testify or release medical records.

Doctors ask these questions so they know how to treat you. They’re not looking to make any brownie-points with the local cops. All information shared with your doctor is strictly confidential, and for YOUR benefit only.

Doctors are bound by doctor patient confidentiality, they can not divulge private information about you or your condition unless either you or someone else is in danger as a result of your condition. Lawyer and psychiatrist are governed by similar rules. Just make sure you don’t say anything stupid and you will be ok.
