My Boyfriend Smokes Marijuana Almost Everyday. Am I Wrong For Wanting To Give Him An Ultimatum?
We’re both 16 years old. Smoking weed is understandable while growing up, especially where i live. But I feel like he’s pushing it…a lot. We’ve been together about a year, and he started smoking last summer, because of his older brother’s influence. At first, it was just every now and then. But it’s getting way out of hand. He tells me there’s no problem with it and gives me all these facts about how it doesn’t affect your health. I don’t know how to argue with him, and I feel that i’m becoming a ***** and a nag about it. I smoke too, maybe once a month. I don’t know if i should wait for him to grow out of it, or just leave him. I really really like him a lot. Any ideas?
Girl I feel you! I was in a similar situation.
Pot isn’t bad, and potheads aren’t bad. But smoking weed is definitely a lifestyle. It is a cultural thing. And although I do not have any problems outside of being caught with it as an illegal substance, I am ultimately NOT a smoker and I find that my non-pot lifestyle is not very compatible with a pot-smoking lifestyle. I still have lots of friends who smoke, but we’re also all grown adults aging anywhere between 25 and 55.
If his smoking lifestyle is something that does not mesh well with your own lifestyle, get out of the relationship and move on. You can still be friends. But you cannot base a healthy relationship on conflicting interests.
Or, think about how and why his smoking bothers you. If they are reasons you can live with, then accept him for who he is and stay in the relationship. It’s up to you. You’re in charge of your own life.
