Prohibition Didnt Work For Alcohol, So Why Do People Still Think It Will Work For Cannabis?
Prohibition started because of mostly women runned groups and religious groups opposed alcohol and its effects, therefore eventually outlawing the sale of alcohol. Then after ww2 when the economy was in the shitter the government stopped the ban and made alcohol legal.
That sounds alot like the position we are in today with Marijuana and our economy.Except Marijuana and Alcohol and very, very different things. Bottom line is our country lacks free will to actually study marijuana and its effects and the government is still living in the “reefer madness” era. When will it end?

because it was never legal does not mean there is a prohibition check your history.

Marijuana, or rather cannabis, was legal before it was made illegal. As a matter of fact, it was found in medicines, tinctures and tonics as late as the early 1900′s, including those used on children.
The term “Marijuana” did not appear until the 1910′s 1920′s area when cannibas became referred to as Marijuana in news publications by the Hearst newsgroups. Around this time, there was an invention that would strip the fibers of the cannabis shaft away from the much of the stock much the same way that the cotton gin revolutionized the cotton industry. It was the first time the words “Billion Dollar Crop” was used in regards to hemp as a result of this machine. Hemp is a very versitile fiber, used in ropes, clothing, food stuffs and a wide variety of other uses, but it was very good for making paper.
Hearst, who owned some of the largest expanses of woodlands feared hemp’s impact on his paper business when this machine came out in force. Far more biomass useable for paper can come from an acre of hemp than an acre of trees due to the fact that it does not take long to grow and you can have several harvests off the same acre every year where as tree’s would take years between harvests. So he began a campaign do defame hemp, or cannibas to protect his business interests.
Problem was, everyone know the benefits and uses of cannabis. So he could not just come out and say that cannabis was causing black men to fall into a demonic hysteria and rape white women and all the other blatantly racial lies that were printed about the plant. So he used the word marijuana because no one had heard of it before and it had that touch of mystery to it.
If you do not believe the straight up lies and fear mongering that was used in the lead up to the Controlled Substances Act which made marijuana illegal, take some time to cruise by Youtube and watch Reefer Madness. This is what they were telling people back then, and why the clamoring to ban marijuana was as strong as it was.
