Should Marijuana Be Legalized Due To Our Economic Situation?

I dont care what you think about marijuana and what it is…
I’m asking if you believe it should be legalized to help out with our deficit. Men lie, numbers dont:
1. 17 billion a year for the Office of National Drug Control Policy
2. 20,000 a year per inmate for keeping non violent criminals in prison
3. 1.7 million people in jail 22 to 33% of these are for marijuana sales
4 11.3% percent of students tried marijuana before age 13
Legalized it would be much more in the sense of alcohol, even though its not as dangerous as alcohol.
The Hemp grown from the stalk could be used for so many different things what people dont know is that big corporations dont want marijuana legalized because then Hemp would be legal and alot of people would go out of business. But so many more good things would happen fo the people of America
I just learned Henry Fords first Model-T ran on hemp gasoline. with our more sophisticated science we cant do it again?

  1. absolutely, but it would need to be regulated like tobacco, alcohol and firearms. The tax money could be put to good use and more money would be saved because law enforcement workers could be working on real criminals – we would have less crime and a happier america – it used to be legal – a few stupid politicians screwed with an even dumber public when it happened.

  2. Lets legalize auto theft. It costs allot of money and people are taking the cars anyway.
Just because people do it, doesn’t make it right. true medicinal reasons, fine, but for casual use. No it should not be legal.
Alcohol is legal because in moderation, it can do no or minimal damage. Anything is bad when it’s abused

  8. You make a great point. Legalizing marijuana would save the US a great deal of money, and it would provide other opportunities such as an alternative source of paper and fuel.
However, there are other risks involved with legalizing marijuana, and to discover those we have to ask why marijuana was banned in the first place. The fact is, marijuana is a gateway drug. Legalizing it would cause thousands of Americans to become addicted to it. Many more would try it, and become addicted to other drugs.
Like cigarettes and alcohol, marijuana is also bad for your health. Not only does it damage the lungs, but it also doesn’t allow you to perform as well at work and at school. We would see already poor test scores sink even lower.
Now I am not saying legalizing marijuana is a bad idea, and it certainly sounds great in the short term, but I am worried about my fellow (severely retarded) Americans becoming so retarded that they don’t know how to drive the cars they own.
If our country wasn’t already chock full of ignorant saps, I would say go for it.

  9. Dear:
It seems you are putting a very sensible argument. Thus we can solve all our problems, Just by discussion and open dialog.
    In my opinion:
1- from a religious point of view marijuana and all alcoholic drinks are prohibited. That is a matter of religion and no body dare to discuss it.
2- All countries of the world believe that this stuff is destructive, are not? that is the WHO reporting.
3- With regard to economics, I think other alternatives can be adopted.
4- For a profitable use of land, land was not created to be used for destructive activities, it should be utilized for the welfare of man kind.
5- Any how as I said, an honest discussion can solve this problem and no doubt.
