Some Questions About Marijuana?

I smoke weed almost everyday. I go to school and work and take care of everything i need to do. I have never once tried another drug or even thought about it. Why do people think it is a “gateway” drug? I know many people who have smoked weed for a long time and don’t do anything else, including drink alcohol. Also it should be legal. The government should legalize it but have laws about it like everything else. If people wanted to grow their own, the government should sell them a license like a fishing license or something but for growing pot, something that people are going to do for the rest of time anyways. That would make the government money and just seems like the best thing to do. Anyone else think so?

  1. Fishing becomes a crime for fear of depletion. Why on earth would you want to license marijuana? What is your justification for licenses? Do you fear we will run out of dirt without licenses? I will never give profit to the government for no reason! What is your logic? And place an indication next to your answer whether or not you’re under the influence for the things that you’re saying, so I know whether or not to take you seriously.
    Additional Details:
Fishing license is to fish in public waters. (i.e., the ones that need to stay replenished) Pothead license is to GROW weed WHERE exactly?!? Gov’t needs to fertilize the soil!?! WTH man I told you not to write anything without indicating your current sobriety. Dang, why is that 99% of potheads always have to make the rest look bad.

  2. Many don’t ever use any drug more harsh, many do. Calling it a ‘gateway’ drug is a way to try to make it look bad and keep it illegal. It would be too hard to control if it were legal, and the government wouldn’t be able to make (what they feel is) their fair share of $$ off of it (as they can alcohol and ciggs).
Whether any of us feel it should be legal or not, it isn’t…so anyone using it is doing so at the risk of penalty.
I doubt it will be legalized (for recreational use) in our lifetime…

  3. Hmmm… I dont know. I agree with u – its not a gateway drug.
I know people who have smoked pot and have never done any other drug, and i also know people who have started doing drugs and never even smoked pot – they went straight to heroin.
    Their choice.
BUT… I dont think it should be legalized. There are people that arent as stable as u are. Theres people who smoke weed and get all crazy and do stupid things. For those people to get a hold of legal marijuana would be a disaster.
So no, marijuana is not a gateway drug, but i also think it should still be illegal.

  4. The only reason marijuana is a gateway drug is that, in order to purchase it, you’re quite often going to dealers who have other, more potent, drugs to offer. And it is in the dealer’s interest to get you hooked.
Marijuana is not addictive. It is less harmful and dangerous than alcohol and tobacco, two drugs that our government actually subsidize.
    I totally agree with you.

  5. I agree with you 100% but the only reason it’s not legal is because the government has not figured out a way to control it or tax it. We should be able to walk into a gas station and buy a pack of joints, just like cigs. But we’ll probably never see the day.

  6. There are plenty of good arguments for legalization, but the lawmakers don’t care. Being pro-marijuana is political suicide for a politician.

  8. To the answer above me:
Hemp used to be grown commerically in the US…even Washington grew it at Mount Vernon. Marijuana was sold in the US, up in to the 20’s or 30’s, I believe, with taxes, etc., just like cigs. The issue is that the US stopped issueing the tax stamp for the product, and it cannot lawfully be sold without the stamp. Then they put in restrictions on growing as well. I’m sure that the ban had something to do with proabition (sp?), which was going on at the same time. Honestly, if the government would just suck it up, legalize, and control it, I don’t think it would be as much of a problem. As to the whole gateway drug thing…I can see it as a gateway to mushrooms or catus, but nothing further. Most of the people I know who smoke are deathly afraid of hard drugs…of course, if you’ve ever watched Requim for a Dream while blazed out of your skull, then being scared of hard drugs makes perfect sense. Anyway, it doesn’t do anything worse than alcohol does, and may actually have some benefits.
