Ten plants or less gets you 1-6 years in prison, and up to a $5000 fine. The sentence is not a mandatory minimum, so you may get no jail time and a huge fine plus probation. I would think that unless this is someone’s first offense, someone would be doing some time. Additionally, you are subject to losing your house and your property under asset forfeiture laws. It happens all the time. In fact, even if you are proven innocent of the charges, you can still lose your house. the burden of innocence is on you, which violates the Constitution.

Until cannabis is re-legalized, it’s not a smart move to grow it, at least on your property. Guerrilla growing is becoming widespread, due to asset forfeiture laws. If you grow on public lands (national forests), the government can’t steal your home for growing a lousy plant.

You also need to consider the unauthorized substance tax. If you have more than 42 grams they will tax you 3.50 per gram I think. Five plants could way anywhere from one half to 2 pounds. They weigh the entire plant, not just the buds. 2 pounds would end up costing you $3000 plus pentalties
