What Think Political Parties About Cannabis And Weapon Possesion?

I’m from Argentina and i don’t know much about the U.S politics. I want to know what each political party think about the consumption of cannabis and possession of weapons.

One Response to “What Think Political Parties About Cannabis And Weapon Possesion?”
  1. Both major political parties claim to support the right to keep and bear arms in the United States. The modern Democrat Party generally pushes for more restrictions on firearm ownership than the Republican Party. Democrats including President Obama believe that there should be a ban on certain semi-automatic firearms and magazines that hold over 10 rounds of ammunition. Firearms of these types are commonly owned in the United States and there is not much public support for a ban on them. Gun laws are generally decided on a state to state basis, but it is unconstitutional for any state or city to completely ban the possession of firearms.
There are members of both parties that wish to see marijuana legalized. Unfortunately this is not the majority view. A bill sponsored by Republican congressman Ron Paul and Democrat Barney Frank would have legalized the possession of 100 grams of marijuana. The bill was also sponsored by Montana Democrat William Lacy. So far the marijuana legalization bill has not advanced through congress.
Many states in the U.S. have already legalized marijuana for medical purposes. You can legally buy marijuana with a doctor’s prescription for conditions such as depression, eating disorders, and severe pain. Medical marijuana is specially grown and considered among the most potent bud in the world. Many cities such as Seattle, Portland, among others have relaxed laws regarding marijuana. Casual drug use is considered a very low priority in these cities and arrests are hardly made for the harmless consumption of marijuana.
