Who Actually Thinks Marijuana Is Bad?

-smoking a lot of weed doesn’t make you lazy, lazy people smoke a lot of weed. I have a 4.0 and a 2030 (1360) sat, and will go to college next year. That is a lot better than plenty of people i know who don’t smoke.
-nobody has actually died from overdosing on it
-it is much safer than alcohol
-there are virtually no negative health affects when using a vaporizer, very few when using a bong, and effects comparable to those of cigarettes when smoking it regularly
-the bible says nothing about marijuana, nor does it say that it makes you a bad person / people who use it are bad people
-use of domestically grown industrial hemp would definitely help the economy (paper, clothing, rope, etc.)

  7. I’m with you 100%. And I know it’s a really overdiscussed topic, but I wish we would just legalize it already. It’s no worse for you than cigarettes and people are going to smoke it anyway. I actually think that if it was legalized, then it wouldn’t be as attractive to some people because it wouldn’t be against the law.
I’m a good student too, first year Sociology major with a 3.7. I don’t think marijuana makes you a lazy slacker. Apathy exists even without weed present.
Oh and J, did you know that due to Prohibition, alcohol was once illegal? So don’t automatically write off anything that is illegal as being “bad for you.” Marijuana is actually legal in many countries. It’s no worse for you than a cigarette and better for you than alcohol.

  8. OMG I know it is bad. I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s, it is now almost 2010, I would love to introduce you to a couple of guys who were at one point two of the smartest kids in my class but have now smoked so much weed they can’t even remember where they put their car keys 10 seconds ago. One of them went to college and got a 4 year degree and was counseling kids for alcohol and drug abuse then he got busted for having 2 ounces of weed on him, got fired, and is now working on a pulling unit crew which is crappy work, the other one can be seen on most days riding his bike around town at 40 years old because he doesn’t have a car.
No that is not true, the short term memory is caused from losing so many brain cells, look that fact up, brain cells are not regenerated, once you lose them they are gone for good, they do not come back after you are “not high” anymore.

  9. Yeah….when do you reckon we should legalize murder?
Also, why do we want brain dead idiots wandering around?
Actually I want my doctor to opperate on me while high! That would be cool. And people to drive around while high! There would be organizations like the MASID (Mothers Against Stoned Idiots Driving). Wonder why that hasn’t taken place? Because it’s illegal and not widespread yet. Why is alcohol so widespread? Because it’s legal. Personally I believe BOTH marijuana and alcohol should be illegal. Anything that makes you function irrationally is dangerous. You DO function irrationally while high. Maybe not when sober, but continuous use WILL cause brain damage, memory problems, etc. Driving while high, with slow relexes, it is VERY likely you can harm someone. I wouldn’t trust anyone who had 20-30% of their normal mental function opperating machieracy. Also, why do tons of people smoke pot now? Probably because of the VERY lose laws regarding it? If the death penalty was offered, would you think twice?

  10. The term “bad”, in this instance, is a relative term. If you’re as intelligent as you claim to be, then you know that the chemical effects of marijuana will make you less motivated, or lazy, at least during the time that you’re under the influence. I don’t smoke marijuana and I managed to go to get great scores on the SAT, PSAT, and ASVAB. I drank a little on the weekends while in college, but still made the Dean’s list; I imagine that I would have done better if I’d spent the time studying that I spent at parties and I’m sure I would have done worse if I put marijuana into the mix. My best friend in High School never smoked marijuana or drank alcohol and he achieved the highest score in the county the year he took his SAT test.
Your Bible argument really doesn’t hold water either, it also says nothing about crack cocaine, speed balls, child porn or drunk driving; it does give instances when women may be raped, children may be stoned (not on marijuana), homosexuals and effeminate men are doomed to hell, and the list goes on. You also mentioned that nobody ever died from overdosing on marijuana, I’m not sure if that is true or not, however I do know that plenty of people have died and killed others in traffic accidents due to intoxication on marijuana.
Through your studies, you should have also learned that hemp and marijuana is not the same thing; hemp contains less than 1% THC and I doubt that you could ever smoke enough hemp to get high. You also claim that smoking marijuana through a vaporizer keeps it from being harmful; I don’t think that the carcinogens are pulled from the drug as it goes through the vaporizer. You also say that it’s no more harmful than cigarettes, that’s like saying that being shot in the stomach is no more harmful than being stabbed in the stomach. Also, what makes alcohol the barometer by which harmful things are measured, for this argument; refer to the cigarette statement above. If marijuana is such a great thing why not compare it to ice water or vitamins?
As far as I know, you are right about the reason that marijuana was initially made illegal, but it’s not the reason it has remained illegal. The percentage of people that you listed that admitted to smoking marijuana prior to graduation may or may not be right; however it’s really a meaningless statistic for the purpose of this argument. The telling statistic would deal with regular/daily users of marijuana. A lot of people may have tried marijuana a few times and decided it wasn’t for them, their experimentation and later success isn’t a vindication of the drug.
Marijuana use may not doom you to a life of sloth and ignorance, but it also won’t put you on the path to success. How bad can life be that you have to ingest some type of drug and risk arrest and future success just to escape it? Just because you’ve not seen the bad side of this drug yet, doesn’t mean it’s not coming. If you can be successful on drugs, just imagine how great things could be without them.
I do believe that there may be some medical uses for marijuana and it should be allowed to be studied and prescribed by licensed physicians for legitimate physical and mental ailments.
