Who Do You Think Has The Right To Legalize Marijuana?
So I am debating over who have the right to legalize marijuana. It is the state vs the national. I got stuck on the national side. My main argument is equality. If the national legalizes marijuana, the states would have an equal amount of how much you can actually carry. Plus, the citizens wouldn’t have to worry about traveling and having to get rid of their extra ounce because they have too much. I really need help on some more arguments if anyone can think of any that would help.
The whole idea behind the US Constitution is that states should be self-governing as far as possible, and federal government only deals with what is best dealt with on a national level. That’s the theory… in practice, both states and federal law make marijuana possession and cultivation illegal. So it would have to be dealt with at both levels. Speaking as a non-American I can’t understand how you can have two laws on the same subject with different levels of punishment in the same place.
