You don't want anyone to comment on the dangers of pot, because they're all true.
You think the crime rate would go down? Pot would just become more available, and ruin more lives

I do not do it but have known many people that have and I say legalize it. There really don't seem to be any draw backs.

I don't object to it being made legal, but I would object to the government putting in place any social protections for those who smoke pot. In other words, I think businesses should still be allowed to reject employees who use it, and conduct drug tests that would allow them to fire employees if they start. So long as private businesses could still decide to not allow it, and people wouldn't be suddenly tagged for "discriminating" against users, I would have no problem with it being legal.

i think it is time to end the hypocrisy. either make marijuana legal similar to tobacco and alcohol, or make tobacco and alcohol as illegal as marijuana
there would be a number of benefits from making marijuana legal similar to tobacco and alcohol
1. the smuggling of marijuana into the country would end because you could buy it at the corner cigarette, liquor, or marijuana store. the money spent trying to stop marijuana smuggling could be better spent securing our borders
2. the police efforts catching marijuana dealers, growers, and smokers would be drastically reduced for the same reason as number 1. their time could be better spent pursuing more serious criminals such as child molesters, rapists, and murderers
3. the growing and selling of marijuana could be taxed. in many states this tax alone might go a long way towards balancing the state budget
4. the growing and selling of marijuana would be a major growth industry. ultimately it could rival the size of the tobacco industry. this would provide employment for hundreds of thousands of people. this employment would, of course, be taxed by both the federal and state governments

It's not dangerous, but even if weed's physical effects pale in comparison to alcohol/tobacco, have you given thought to how our government would try to restrict it? There is NO method in determining how much marijuana can be allowed in your sytem while operating a vehicle. Alcohol has this, its called Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC). So unlike alcohol, marijuana's potency cannot be measured anything beyond "positive" or "negative". On top of that, you can be tested positve for weed up to a month since you last used it! By that logic, you can't drive your car without being at risk for a DUI from that joint you took a month ago.
Avoid the confusion and let's keep weed illegal. It's not like we need any more substances for people to abuse anyway.

I think marijuana should be legalized then taxed and regulated just like alcoholic beverages. California for example spends 170 million dollars per year trying to eradicate marijuana and despite all the money and law enforcement's efforts weed is still easy to obtain and people continue to get high.
There's a bill in the California legislature that if passed would legalize marijuana for recreational use. It's expected that a legal marijuana industry in California would generate something like 1.2 billion dollars a year in tax revenues. It would also take a huge bite out of the profits Mexican drug cartels make by cultivating and smuggling illegal marijuana into the USA.
EDIT: If marijuana was legalized and then regulated like alcohol and tobacco are now it would become much harder for kids to get hold of. Right now marijuana is for the most part available only through the black market. Most illegal drug dealers it don't care really care who they sell it to because they're strictly in it for the money.
Once legalized weed will be available only through state licensed dispensaries. The people who run these dispensaries will only be allowed to sell marijuana to people over 21. You can bet your last dollar that they'll stiff penalties for those who provide marijuana to minors too.
There will always be ways that minors will be able to get weed, just like they obtain alcohol or cigarettes, but once illegal sources start to dry up it's going to be much harder then simply buying it off the local drug dealer.
As for impaired driving I don't recommend it. However it's widely noted that while under the influence of alcohol people are more apt to drive aggressively and take stupid chances like running red lights or speeding. People under the influence of marijuana tend to be more cautious so they're slightly less hazardous.
As for ruining lives marijuana like alcohol is a mind altering substance which offers an "escape" from reality. It's NOT for everybody. Your always going to have people who will choose to spend every waking moment of their lives stoned just like alcoholics try and spend as much time as they can getting drunk.
