Its illegal because of racism, and should not be illegal because its is less harmful then alcohol, and without any of alcohols negative side effects. And any one says that it can give you cancer from smoking to much, you can vaporise it which makes it pretty much 100% THC without the carcinogens and other chemicals.

In the US it was made illegal as part of a racist campaign that fulfilled the personal agendas of the first dea agents and politicians. The reasons behind it were that it made the blacks rape the white women, made the mexicans and jazz players crazy, and made white women promiscuous. The campaigns were things that many of us would not tolerate today.
It remained illegal under a massive amount of mythology and propaganda that made people think it was bod, super addictive, evil, a gateway drug and all kinds of other false information.
Today, it is illegal because a lot of the older generations (say 30-35ish and older) trusted -and still trust and believe – the sources of the false information (law enforcement and the gov). It is also illegal today because a lot of people make a lot of money off it being illegal… cops and the gov are raking in money and attention from charges, arrests and busts. Pharmaceutical companies are making a ton of money off synthetic thc and other meds that actually ARE addictive.
I think it is wrong that marijuana is illegal, and I support full legalization, as long as it is age regulated and included in dui laws – but with more accurate ways of testing than urine or hair, both of which measure metabolites, not active thc. (thats like knowing someone eats a lot of junk food by how much they weigh, rather than finding junk food in their digestive system). Testing blood would actually show how much active thc is in the person’s system, much the same way they test for alcohol in the blood.

Follow the money.
Prior to WWII, hemp was used for making textiles, paper and most importantly, rope. This rope was used in marine applications because it didn’t rot and got stronger when wet. During this time many synthetics were created as a substitute for natural materials, including nylon. DuPont and the oil companies convinced lawmakers that their synthetics were better and less expensive than natural products. They also convinced lawmakers that people were getting high by smoking hemp products and thus were not safe.

the REAL reason why it was made illegal was because hemp was to easy to make so a very rich logger lobbyist lobbied against it and now it’s illegal
