well typically the usa tries to legislate morality and this is one of those things it deems bad. It feels that the stereotype of the “pothead” is bad and should be avoided and deemed wrong. Whereas the cigarette smoker is pretty much anyone so there is no bad stereotype also the biggest reason is MONEY. They cant outlaw tobacco smoking because of the income they receive through the taxes and all the people that profit off the sales. Its all politics and money not whats safer or more natural, lol. Oh and you cant use the all natural reasoning…cocaine and heroin are plant based…..

Like alcohol prohibition, “trying” to make marijuana illegal has failed miserably and completely in the US! Legal or not, people are using it! The only people benefiting, however, are criminals, artificially raising the prices, and making for an unsafe situation as criminals are empowered and becoming wealthier.
Alcohol causes many more deaths per year than marijuana; if anything, alcohol should be illegal.
Legalizing (and TAXING) marijuana, just like alcohol, would give much-needed revenue to governments who are in dire need of funds, and reduce drug-related criminal activity.
If you agree, write your state and federal representatives. If you don’t know who they are, usehttp://www.congress.org/congressorg/home
put in your ZIP, and click “Find Your Officials”.
(even if you disagree, I don’t care; just get involved, and let your reps know your thoughts; babbling on YA is essentially useless)

Because cannabis is fun and tobacco isn’t?
On a more serious note…
I remember reading that Marijuana was made illegal so that Mexicans would leave the country. I know it sounds silly…and I may not recall it correctly…but it’s out there. I’m not saying that, that is the reason why it’s still illegal. But the ban from the beginning was based on some type of xenophobia.
