is it because if you were to grow your own at home,the govenment cannot tax you?could this really be a key factor?

GOvernment can easily tax stuff that also can be home grown. We tax the heck out of Tobacco.
We tax the check out of alcohol, and we vigorously monitor illegal alcohol production. Despite all the bootleg and the high profits from alcohol and the ease of producing it at home, it’s still legal. I personally made a couple of alcoholic beverages.

It’s not the marijuana, it’s the hemp. Hemp is direct competition to some of America’s largest corporations, petrochemical, lumber, alcohol, cotton, etc. These industries have well funded lobbyists to ensure that marijuana remains illegal.

There was a bunch of propaganda in the 1930′s that lied and said that is was an evil drug that induces violence. Lying propaganda like the Republicans like to still use.

correct, the gov’t would have a hard time making money off of it. its important to realize the gov’t hates competition and will go to all ends to stop it
