Young Abe Lincoln Destroyed The Whig Party. Will Some Young Republican Do The Same To His Party?
Lincoln destroyed the Whigs by opposing slavery. My guess is some Republican will destroy the Party by favoring the legalization of marijuana. I think its a winning issue in the face of growing state and national budget deficits.
If some young Republican can destroy the GOP by becoming more Libertarian, I’m good with that.

Lincoln did not destroy the Whig Party. The Whigs destroyed themselves, by being all for big business and not attending to the needs of suffering Americans.
Then again, your analogy still applies, doesn’t it? The Republicans are destroying themselves in the same way, and any third-party movement will still need someone charismatic enough to get people to notice him (or her), intelligent enough to have ideas that will reach people, and comfortable enough with people to succeed in reaching them.
But the legalization of marijuana will not happen. It is still a mind-altering drug, and a person under its influence can — not necessarily will, but can — be as dangerous as a person under the influence of alcohol. Reducing the penalties for possession is a far wiser course.

well, traditionally, the republican party has stood for the individuals right to make their own personal decisions under the guise of something called “civil rights”. So I doubt it will destroy the party if they vote in favor of legalizing weed. It may just remind the mainstream media to what the party traditionally stands for….Libertarianism.

The Republican party is already in trouble. It won’t be a “young” republican that destroys it. It will be the old die-hard republicans of today that do it. And I don’t think it will be over marijuana.
I left the Republican party 7 years ago in disgust at what they had become.

Lincoln never ran on opposition to slavery.
He did the right thing in the end but he never publicly stated his true view on it.
He told the public the he is for keeping slavery in its original locations but stopping it from spreading.

IF this plan “works” it would have been great in Denmark, when in truth, it hasn’t done much, but bring tourists. You could easily get it from the street for cheaper prices.

I hope so. I am disinchated with the GOP almost as much as I am with the Democrats.
